Q: doc decreased adderall dosage, re-upped by myself but now what- too expensive and unreliable source
i have been prescribed adderall for about 8 years for adhd in conjunction with hypothyroidism and depression. around four years since starting adderall my doctor suddenly decided to reduce my rx from 30 mg down to 10 mg per day. he said he had learned of the dangers regarding heart health. i think he was alerted by my slight weight reduction, however that was a result of a lifestyle change, as i had stopped working out/ training in sports and had thus lost muscle weight. i understand the guideline to dosage by the body's bmi. he insisted i gain weight before he would increase dosage. i had trouble doing this as i have always had a fast metabolism, my genetic disposition(whole family is thin), and my height is above average - 5'11". i was distraught as adderall had improved my attitude, energy, focus and drive. I turned to friends that had the prescription and have since been able to take my original dosage. i know this is unapproved of and fully know that i shouldn't be doing this behind my doctor's back. however, every month i came in for refill my health condition was consistent and my doc always said "you look great!". however, for obvious reasons of cost, inconsistency of supply, and general consciousness i'm asking for advice on my dilemma. my bmi has remained the same on the higher dose and i feel great but i'm afraid my doctor, or even a new physician would condemn me for adjusting my medication. will i ever be able to be on the medication that i feel my best on? even though the doc calculates my bmi and it is within the guideline (just barely), he thinks i'm still taking the lower dose so understandibly he wont increase, but in actuality i'm within guideline even though i'm taking a considerably higher dose! i realize i've definitely gotten my own self into this predicament but i'm hoping there's something i can do. this if first time i've discussed my situation so sorry if this is repetitive and jumps around a bit. thank you for your time :
