I am taking Depakote delayed 500mg

Worried
04/11/09

I don't take all of them every day, plus I was prescriped Vistral TID a day for anxiety! I found out the Depakote I seem to be fine during the day but at night, I don't sleep and even when I take the Seroquel 100mg, which I was on before I was diagnosed with Bipolar, from my serious car accident in 2007, from racing thoughts and can't sleep. But before it helped and I would be a sleep within 20 minutes. Now I take the Depakote at dinner 500mg and take my Seroquel as prescribed. Now I am wide a wake and can't sleep at night. There are times I will only get 2-4 hours or sleep a night or none and still be able to function at work, I work at a doctor's office and I am a MA, I feel like I am having a side effect and I am worried! But when I don't take it I can tell by dinner time I do get depressed easily, but has to do with losing close family members from death and other major incidents that have happened since Feburary. My question is what do I do?? Why is this happening?? I know it's not normal, and reading about information about Depakote on this web site, saying it can cause serious damange to your liver and if you take anything for convulsions, it's not safe! Please let me know what I should do or any advice. I know not to stop it cold turkey because that isn't safe either! I have been on this now for 3 weeks and I know my next step is to get my Depakote level check, when I left where I got help, they checked it but never gave me the results before I left! I am scared and nervous that they diagnosed me wrong. The doctor that I work for diagnosed me with ADD/ADHD, and put me on Strettera and that helped a lot, focusing and being able to not get so up tight when things would pile up at work. Now that I am off it I feel worse, but what's strange is where I got help, I was there for 5 days and started me on it the second day and I was tired until about a week after it, but I know it was because of all the stress I was up for days! Please any advice, thank you!

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com

First, I am not a medical professional and would not be able to provide any medical advice. I think you should speak with your doctor and let him or her know about what it going on. It certainly is not good for you to be sleeping so little. This can aggravate bipolar disorder and make it more difficult to cope with stress.

You indicated you know you should not suddenly stop taking the medication and so, again, it would be best for you to discuss your lack of sleep with your doctor as soon as possible.
