Q: What is the connection between ADHD and Autism?

Autism and ADHD are two separate conditions, however, there are symptoms that may be similar or it is also possible for ADHD and Autism to be co-existing conditions.

 

Benjamin Handen, professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at the Pittsburgh School of Medicine states, ""ADHD symptoms are common in children with autism, but children with autism often do not respond well to stimulant medications, the conventional treatment for ADHD." He has been involved in a study relating to the treatment of ADHD in children with Autism, however, I have not yet seen the results of the study published.
