Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

The first place to start, if you believe your child may have ADHD, is with your family doctor or pediatrician. Many doctors today are familiar with ADHD and feel comfortable making such a diagnosis. Other doctors may not feel prepared to diagnose ADHD and would prefer to refer you to a psychologist or psychiatrist for evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.

Good luck and let me know how it goes. If you son does have ADHD I am sure you will have many questions. Please come back and I will be glad to provide you with additional information.

Hello I'm not sure what area you live in but there are tests you can take him to. A psychiatrist will test him, also colleges have testing facilities. Some cost a lot of money but there are some that are government funded. Check on college websites, make a few phone calls. You will find some options. Psychiatrist's (Some) have computer tests that they don't charge you to take. But of course you have to pay for the psychiatrist which can be 200 a time. Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions. :)

Toodles,

Some hospitals have behavior evaluation centers.  Mount Siani in NYC has a dept. that conducts indpeth evaluations for ADHD in children and will provide a detail report with recommendatins that can help you find the right schools and learning enviornment for your child.  There's also an organizations called
Advocates for Children, who may also be able to provide you with places.  However, 4 years old may be too young to diagnose a child with ADHD but definitely inquire.  Continue to give your son lots of hugs and kisses.
