Q: IT SEEMS MY FAMILY DOESN'T UNDERSTAND MY CHILD that has ADHD AND ODD

i USUALLY DON'T MEDICATE MY DAUGHTER ON THE WEEKENDS because it makes her a little tired. But when she goes with family members she I medicate her, because behavior is sometimes good and sometimes not. Everyone in my family seems to have their own opinion about my parenting chioces for this child.  I just don't think they understand her medical condition which makes it hard.

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

Many times family members will have their own opinion on how we should raise our children. The good part of this is that they do not have any say in how your child is being raised or whether or not she takes medication, as her parent, this is your decision. The bad part is that even though this may be true, family members may feel their opinion needs to be heard. It is up to you to let each person know that you appreciate their caring for your child, however, medical decisions will be made between you and her physician.

I understand your situation. I don't like to give my son meds either, because their not themselves. I tell my family if they can not be fair  to my child then they do not need to visit. It seems our children with ADHD there always being judged before they open there mouths. I feel it is so unfair. I really feel for our children with ADHD or ODD ect. They did not asked to be this way.
