Managing ADHD
What are your best tips or strategies for managing ADHD? For adults? For kids?
I think with kids, building up "equity" is key. Hugs, pats on the back, physical affection are key to my mind, as are one on one moments or activities. Cook part of dinner together, eat a snack with your ADD child. It doesn't have to be big events. It may not seem as though they remember these moments from one minute to the next. However, if they know that they can expect that closeness on a regular basis, I think it really does go a long way. Then, when the tough moments arise, you both know that better moments lie ahead.

HI again. I myself have ADHD complicated by C-PTSD (c= continues) <long story.
The 1st step for me was to gain a sleep pattern, I got on concerta & was able to sleep after years of trying different anti- depressants & such, that did nothng but cause other problems.
Figuring dosage is a trial & error approach but I am at 36m. The dosage needs to be raised as I do not make it through the day without getting really tired anyway thats that.
The PTSD seems to drive the ADHD through the roof at times, but some things cannot be fixed at this time as I am in litigation.
I try to keep the visual stimulation to a minium, I don't like to shop so that helps alot haha.
peace be with you & yours.

I've am 36 and have suffered from ADHD my whole life. I don't have children, so I can't offer advice on that, but let me offer some advice for those adult sufferers. First thing, accept yourself for who you are. Don't feel like you have to read everything about ADHD, and learn about all the potential problems it can cause in your life. It will only depress you. I crave knowledge, but in this case, ignorance is bliss. I take my Adderall and my Straterra and I live my life the best that I can. I have a great job, I play on two tennis teams, I am not married, ok life's not perfect, but it's good. I count my blessings, focus on my strenghts, and try to fix the little one at a time. I think with an ADHD person, there isn't one right way to organize something, or one right way to manage your time. Do what's best for you. Anyway, just my two sents

My name is David and I am the third generation Adult 53 YO with ADHD. I have a Masters Degree is Social Work. Some days are excellent because I get so much accomplished. Paperwork is difficult. I have also suffered from anxiety due to "fitting in" and using self discipline when I feel I want to give input but know it is inappropriate. My 15 year old son also deals with ADHD. He is on the honor's list and is well read. He uses his hyperactive component in reading. Anyway, there is much to say. There are struggles but I am glad to be who I am.
