Q: Should I stop my child's ADHD medication?

I read about the new study linking stimulants to sudden death in children. What does this mean for parents of kids on ADHD medication?

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

I just posted information on this study on the site yesterday. According to information, the FDA is indicating that there were limitations on the study and are stating that parents should not just stop their child's medication. Certainly, if you have concerns, you should speak with your child's doctor.

However, the study was the result of studying children that have died and comparing sudden death to death from a motor vehicle accident. According to the study, 10 children that died from sudden death were taking stimulant medication and 2 children that died in a car accident were taking stimulant medication.

Because the study included such a small amount of children taking stimulant medications, the results are not considered conclusive.

I hope this helps.
