Q: What is the correlation between adult ADD in women and extreme shyness?

what is the correlation between adult ADD in women and extreme social anxiety or shyness?  What are the appropriate medications and do they help significantly with this issue and relationships?

Hi Lavenderblu:

There are well-known correlations between ADD an many other problems such as anxiety, depression, social discomfort, lack of confidence, self esteem issues and yes, shyness.

Medications for ADD alone typically don't fix the "co-morbid" or associated symptoms, but psychotherapy can help. You may want to check out a CHADD meeting in your area, or find a therapist through Psychology Today who can help.
