Q: Tested for A.D.D. in 2007. Doctor is still seeking medicine for good results.

Doctor is still seeking useful medicine for A.D.D. I am a 38yr old female and feel that this is not the most helpful or effecient approach.  I'm at a loss of whom to seek out in Illinois.  I have experienced some improvement, but know that it is lacking.  I feel I need a more proactice approach.

Hi JS,

There is some useful information here at Health Central that might help you know where to begin looking. Some of this you might already know, but it never helps to read it as a refresher.

When you are just diagnosed, it helps to know something about what to expect. This section will help you understand what it means to be diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. Here is a comparison between ADD and ADHD. Again, you might know all of this already since you were diagnosed some time ago, but it never hurts to read it over and keep a pen and paper handy for taking notes for questions. This section is about related conditions. You didn't mention which medications you've been on, but here is a good basic overview of the most popularly prescribed medications for ADD/ADHD. You can read about what you've taken and maybe get a perspective as to how they work and why they didn't. Current treatment protocols change all the time, but here is some information about some of the practices currently being used. Here is a link to information that might help you in choosing a professional who will help you with your needs. While we can't give you information about professionals in your immediate area, you can get a feel for what to look for and what to avoid.

I hope this helps. There is nothing worse than the feeling that your doctor isn't vested in your best interest.

Dang I hit send too soon! lol

Just remember that  while online sites are wonderful resources for getting the information you need to ask all the right questions, they can not take the place of your doctor's solid medical advice. If you have a concern, you should talk it out with your doctor.

Take care and stay in touch! Let us know how you are doing!
