Q: what kind of side effects do stimulants have on a girl going through puberty?

My daughter who is almost 6 is in the process of being diagnosed with adhd, she is a bright and happy little girl, but it's her confidence that my husband and I are worried about, she is getting to the point where I think that she is noticing that she might think different then some of the other children her age.

We are worried about how this is going to effect her going into grade 1 with her peers and teachers. We are providing her with tutering through the summer and the one on one help really seems to be helping, but, it is at her pace...

I guess my question is, is it more wise to start medicating a child at this age? What are the benifits of a stimulant compared to a non-stimulant and how do these medications effect these young girls from grade 1 into puberty?
