Hi, I totally understand what you feel like.  Honestly, My psychiatrist consistantly says that the only thing that is proven to work for us "unmotivated" people are the stimulant drugs.  While things have been very tricky, and not typical for me on the different ADD drugs, I think they certainly serve a purpose, and as I am sure you must have heard, if your truely ADD/ADHD the abuse really isnt an issue.

The unmotivated, unattentive people lack the brain chemicals that we need to function normally.  Its a fact.  Why?  I dont know, but I would rather REALLY function in life, than trying to get by and not making it.  I dont remember having had a sleep issue, although my psych. believes I need to get a sleep study done.  Since the birth of my first child, I  was suddenly labeled Bipolar, and that would be ok, if it had been true.  I have been on darn near every med in the psych world for bipolar, and esp. depression.  None worked, most made things even grimmer.  I ultimately oppted to try ECT, and after 15 sessions, which were okay with me, because I love getting knocked out, they didnt work either.  The advantage?, I ended up getting my old psychs boss, the head of psychiatry, and he took my case from the ECT point on.  That was two years ago.  Finally after 9yrs, I had a doctor, who acknowledged the FACTS(as in, what the tests for ADD/ADHD results were, had in them complete test of facts, and the mistakes, and started me on a regimend of Adderall.  For the first time in many, many years, I felt normal, and was able to keep up with, wash, dishes, the usual crap.  I also for the first time since the birth of my first son, had depression lifted for real.  Honestly, in 9 years I had been tried on every antidepressant and certainly more.  I cant say that stimulants are the answer to all unnattentive ADD, I still continue the guinea pig things(to improve my response to things), and still strive for the right meds.  Im one of the lucky ones that do not metabolize the drugs right, so that is outside of the box, but luckily my doc knows this, and always keeps it in mind.

I tried the new vyvanse since my biggest issues are the "rebound effects" from adderall, and that would certainly tie in with the duration of the meds in the system.  Not to mention that the recent   The big marketing strategy on this one, is #1 Adderall XR patent runs out soon.$$$  #2 - It claims that it stays effective in the system, for at least 12 hrs if not longer.  Unfortunately in my case, it was a nightmare - 3 wks of it.  The dosing was far from accurate, despite my dr going over the amount that Shire reccommended, including the # of x's a day.  It wasnt close to adderall, and I had more muscular, bp, and hr issues than in a while. And while I didnt rebound as bad as on the Adderall(which doesnt happen to everyone), I didnt function well either.  It certainly did have the extended release that I had hoped for, even a couple of more hours than Adderall would have been terriffic.  I see alot of positive feedbacks on that stimulant too though.   Everyone is different, every drug is different, the reactions are always different.  Its alot of trial and error.  If you research the different types of meds, you will see there are quite a few, and, being someone that has tried most of them, they ALL gave me different reactions.  I am still struggeling trying to find what works well for my brain, and body.  I hope this helps a little.  Take care, happy holidays too!  Stacey
