Q: Is it safe to give vyvanse to a six year old child

Is it safe to give a five year old child Vyvanse?

Is it safe to break a 30mg vyvanse capsule open and put in a five year old child's drink?

Vyvanse is approved by the FDA to treat children between the ages of 6 and 12 and adults with ADHD. This medication has not been tested in children under the age of six and should not be given to children five and under.

 

Because Vyvanse is an extended release medication, it is probably not a good idea to break open the capsule. These types of medications usually need to be swallowed whole. You should discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist.
