Tuesday, September 30, 2008 Emily asks

Q: How do you know what dosage is right for you?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm taking Vyvanse 50mg and while I think it works WONDERS, I wish it lasted longer. I take it at 6:30am and it usually kicks in about the time I get to work (7). When I get out of work at 5pm, I head straight to school and don't get out of class until 9:00pm. It works really well during the day at work, but during school hours, or sometimes before I get to class, the effects start to wear off. Would upping my dosage to 70mg make it last LONGER, or would I just feel stronger effects throughout the day?

I am ADHD and I have a 12 year old with ADHD. You know you have the right dose when you are getting good symptom control, which it appears is the case in your situation. You have a very long day and you may need to speak to your doctor about a short acting afternoon dose to help you through your 15 hour days. It could be a booster dose around the time you get off work or shortly before getting off work. And, it could be one that you only use on those long days and not on the weekends or days off from school.

Best advice, talk to your doctor about your situation.
