It is up to the doctor to make a descision like that, it is very easy to overdose on adderall, the overdose issues are severe

A doctor slipped out when he found out that they had prescribed my six year old with adderal, 10mg. He told me that it is too strong for kids and is usually only for teenagers.  Concerta and ritalin are in the same stimulant family. Try those first if you are uncomfortable. LUCK:)

Adderall is approved for use in children 6 years and older. The dose is usually based partly on weight and partly on symptoms. There are full-grown adults who take only a 10 or 20 mg per day dose, and there are children who take more than 30 mg per day. The dose should be determined by the doctor. If you are concerned about your child's dose, ask the doctor to explain how he or she determined the appropriate dose. Always monitor your child for possible adverse effects of the medication, and report these to the doctor.

Best of luck,

Casey

i believe adderall is based on weight, my son is 10yo and weighs about 130lbs and is only on 15mg, you should monitor him on it , and decrease by 5mg at a time to see what does is right for him
