Q: I was on a Dr.prescribed regime of 360mg of adderal a day my Dr got nervous and dropped me .At this

My Doctor was a ADHD researcher before starting practice .I was one of his few new patients.With out my prompting each week he raised my dosage till it was 12  30 mg adderall a day.Two years later I feel he wants to drop me .Suddenly he gives urine test of course I pass. I never missed apt. in 2 yrs . I as ADHD got time wrong after last visit and although I am out according to Rx time he sets apt 3 weeks later  etc. Later out of blue he says can no longer treat me.I say dont I need to be taken off slowly .He says I will fel uncomfortable but thats it .I am more than uncomfortable but sought another Dr. he put me on 1 30mg a day. I still feel my body is going through a reall adjustment it has been 2 weeks .My new Dr suggested vyvanse should I switch or stay on adderall to taper or adjust first? Fedcat

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral. I am not a medical professional and would not be able to provide any information or advice on medications. It does seem extreme, however, to be taking 12 Adderall per day. I have not heard anyone taking that much and certainly there is a question of withdrawal when this is stopped:

 

According to the site adhd.emedtv.com:

 

  • Extreme fatigue (tiredness)
  • Depression
  • Changes in heart rhythm.  

Although Adderall withdrawal is generally not life-threatening, it can be very uncomfortable. It can be so uncomfortable that people will start taking Adderall again in order to relieve the symptoms.
