In Fla. I had the school "test" him. A diagnosis can only be given by a doctor, not the school. After testing I  an requested outside  evaluation by a phycloigist of my choosing. The county had to provide it at their expense. That evaluation is the one I took to his doctor. It was also the more accurate one, testing tends to reflect what the contractor wants it to, the school doen't want the expense and difficulty of another ADD kid ( I've had children in the public school system for 20 years)

The only way to know for sure is to have him tested.  Most schools have a guidance department that can refer you to the procedures you need to follow to have them test him.  You can also ask your pediatrician to refer you to a specialist that would do the testing.  Good luck!

One ADHD specialist we saw charged about $200 to do a small battery of tests plus the parent & teacher evaluation sheets. We also took our grandson when he was in kindergarten to a Neurological Clinic & saw a clinical psychologist who performed about a day & 1/2 of testing and charged about $1500. We wanted to be thorough before we just started medicating him. We've had to change meds several times. He is now 9, and using the Daytrana patch with mixed results. You have to start somewhere because the school can't diagnose him. You have to rule out other possible conditions.
