If you have concerns about your doctor's advice, you probably can request a second opinion from another doctor. You should contact your health insurance company and ask about procedures for requesting a second opinion to make sure another doctor's appointment would be covered.
Because medical professionals would not be able to tell you whether your son should continue taking medication without seeing your son, I don't believe a doctor would be able to answer your question over the internet.
I would suggest speaking to your doctor about your concerns. He would be the best person to explain why he made this decision and offer you other options.
