Q: can you devlelop adhd?

i am 14 and i think i might have adhd, but i don't know. i have asked my mom about seeing some one and all she said was that i just wasn't trying in school. Thats almost the exact oppisite. when i was at elementry and middle school, i always had a and b averages whithout even studing for test.

starting in 6th grade i made my first c. the next year in jr. high i made two c's and a d on the first nine weeks report card and now im a freshman with an f in spanish(which i didn't really worry about), and a d in math and computer class pluss multiple c's(thats when i got worried.). i keep on trying to pay attention but i allways find something more interesting than whatever the teachers is talking about. i looked up symptoms and causes for adhd and i suffer slightly if not enirly from most of the symptoms. as far as genetics go, i don't think anyone else in my family has ever had it. all i know of that could possibly lead to adhd is that my mom drank and smoked until she found out she was pregnat with me, which was about when she was two weeks pregnat with me.(she smoked a pack a day.)

i really want to find out if i have adhd and what i can do because i have always wanted to go to college. and with the way my grades look, i don't think that will happen.

basiclly i can't get a doctors appontment and i think that i really need help. what should i do?

You should go to your school nurse, counselor, advisor, principal,  or one of your teachers. Surely if you put forth the effort to try to get help, someone should be willing to help you especially if they agree that you may have a problem. They may suggest you try tutoring to begin with - it couldn't hurt and may be that you just need some one-on-one, a little extra help. Maybe they can speak with your mother and try to persuade her to have you evaluated. It's good that you're concerned and want to help yourself. Good luck!
