Q: Need help with Vyvanse Dosage/symptoms

My nephew lives with me.. he's 14 and was prescribed Vyvanse - 50mg this past weekend.  The first night, he experienced heart palpitations and chest pain plus the stomach pains and no appetite.  (Background.. he used to be on this med @ 70mg 2 years ago, when he was one foot shorter and 40 lbs lighter - and he experienced many side effects).  I called the doctor immediately, she will lower the dose to 30mg.  Question.. is there a way I can somehow lower the dosage (ie soak in water?) of the 50mg pills until we receive the new 30 mg prescription.. long story short... it will take DAYS before we can get the new prescription (controlled substance.. and his doctor is in the town he used to live in).

OR with his heart palpitations and chest pain, should Vyvanse be avoided all together?

Thank you,

His worried Aunt!

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice.

I would not try to soak the medication in water. You might want to check with a pharmacist to see if there is anything that can be done.

Hopefully you have been able to get the correct dosage and are monitoring your nephew carefully.
