Q: if tegretol is missed and not administered within 1 hour of prescribed time should the dose be

discarded and continued to the next dose at the correct time

Hi nurse

 

Thank you for your question. I'm not sure exactly how to answer your question. Tegretol comes in an immediate release formula (Tegretol) and an extended release formula (Tegretol XR). The general rule is that if a dose is missed, it should be taken when it is remembered, unless it's almost time for the next dose. If it's almost time for the next dose, you should forget about the missed dose and just take the next dose at the correct time. You can read more about Tegretol and how it should be taken here.
