Q: child with ADHD

My daughter is 16 and she is on adderrall after a period of time being on this med. will u start gaining weight my daughter is at 225lbs she doesnt eat that much.i really dont think she needs this med. she was living with her dad and grandmother when she started taking this and her dad passed away last yr and i think they just couldnt  control her or didnt have the patience so thats why they put her on it. can they grow out of ADHD and do u think we can take her off the med.thank u for any answersSmile

Loss of appetite can be one side effect of Adderall. Weight gain, while not impossible, is not considered a side effect of this medication.

 

I would not be able to say whether your daughter has ADHD or not. If you have concerns that this diagnosis is not correct, the best place to start would be your doctor. You might want to request a referral to a mental health specialist that would be able to complete an evaluation and let you know whether your daughter has ADHD.

 

While ADHD is a lifelong condition, some people learn behavior strategies to compensate for symptoms and sometimes symptoms, such as hyperactivity, lessen as you mature.
