He's adamant about what he will eat...the chicken can't have any jagged edges when cut and the french fries must be of a certain crispness or he won't eat them. It's been a real problem on vacations finding a McDonalds, Burger-King or other places that serve this. He will go hungry rather than eat anything else (his parents have tried everthing). He will eat some yogurts, diced pears and cheese cubes but dinner must be the same each day or he carries on until he gets what he craves. Does he need a nutitionist at this point? He's been on this same diet for at least five years! He's ADHD and in the autism spectrom disorder category.

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

Some people with ADHD are hypersensitive and it may be the texture of the food that causes your grandson distress. For the same reason, children with ADHD may not like tags in their clothes, may need socks and shoes on at all times, have a sensitivity to loud sounds or strong smells. I am giving you links to further information about hypersensitivities in children with ADHD.

This may also be more part of the autism. I would speak with your grandson's doctor to see if he or she would be able to offer additional suggestions.
