Skin picking is often a sign of obsessive compulsive disorder, which is an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders have been found to be, at least in part, hereditary and so in that way it can be passed from parent to child.
If you, or your child, are having problems with skin picking, you should speak with your physician.

Can you tell us more about the situation? Do you have such a disorder? I honestly don't think you will harm your child just by having this issue yourself. Your child may be curious though. Are you seeing any evidence that your child is doing the same behavior?
The main thing is to get help for this disorder for yourself.
