Thank you for your question. Normally, people will not experience any problems when stopping Concerta, however, any time medication is stopped, you should discuss it with your physician.

 

Withdrawal symptoms are possible when Concerta is stopped but this generally only happens when someone is taking higher than prescribed dosage. Just in case, the symptoms of withdrawal are:

 

Fatigue

Depression

Unusual behavior

 

Many teenagers want to stop medication, at least for a while, to see if it is still needed or to learn to manage symptoms of ADHD without medication.

 

You might want to set up an appointment with your doctor so your daughter can discuss stopping the medication and come up with some strategies for managing ADHD symptoms.
