Hi Christina

I know this is a huge step when you take your child to get a medication.  Did the doctor give you any information about this drug?  I think the first step for you is to call the doctor and request that someone answer your questions.

In the meantime here is the information we have about Concerta and here is what it says about common side effects for children:  "The most common adverse reaction (>5%) reported in children and adolescents was upper abdominal pain."  Suicidal thoughts are warned about for children taking antidepressants.  Concerta is a central nervous system stimulant.

And here are some warning signs indicating that your child needs to be seen again by the doctor:  "Contact your healthcare professional immediately if you or your child: develops abnormal thinking or hallucinations, abnormal or extreme moods and/or excessive activity; or if aggressive behavior or hostility develops or worsens while taking CONCERTA®."

Here is the official Concerta web site for more information about what you can expect.  They have a 1800 number to call for any questions:  1-888-440-7903

The thing you want to watch for now is if your child does experience any side effects and you want to see if the medication is effective.  Talk to your child's doctor about what you are seeing so that the proper dosage can be given.

Hope this helps some.  Thank you for your question.
