Q: ADHD Inattentive - my son has been recently diagnosed with this

My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD Inattentive, also anxiety and is on medication now for this. I have been told that he should be evaluated to rule out a possible learining disability. Can he qualify for 504 just based on a diagnosis of ADHD? Currently he loses, forgets his work and does not pay attention as he should in classes. If he is sick one day... this puts him behind... he forgets to make up work and gets overwhelmed and then its downhill... This has been the issue.. He has stomach problems (IBS) Anxiety related which is why he sometimes is sick from school

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

Because Section 504 and IEPs are specific to the needs of the individual child, it would be impossible to say whether your son would fit the criteria for Section 504. This would need to be determined by your school district after an evaluation. You can also request an evaluation for learning disabilities. This would be completed by the school district as well (at no cost to you), once the school district determines there is a need for a complete evaluation.
