Q: How does Adderral affect you??

So my family and I have always been pretty certain that I have ADD.  But I have always kept my schedule so busy with sports that by the end of the day I focus just fine.  But I recently fractured my neck and so I have to stay away from physical activity for up to 4 months.  Since then I can sit down and study at all!  Every little thing and thought distracts me.  Im scared if I start taking adderall it will hinder my sport performance.  Does anyone know about this?  Will it effect my times in running and swimming??

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com. I am so sorry to hear about your injury and hope that you are doing well.

Adderall is a short acting medication, which means it helps you only for a number of hours after taking the medication and has no impact after that time is over.

Many people find that adderall helps them focus and concentrate. If you choose to take adderall, you do not need to take it all the time or  long-term. Some people choose to take ADHD medications only when they are faced with an especially tedious project or when they feel they may need to take it.

As far as impacting your swimming and running, once you stop the medication it should not have any affect. Since everyone reacts differently to medications, it is impossible to say how it would impact you if you continue to take it.
