Q: Can technology like Neat Receipts hlp ppl with chronic disorg. file taxes & stay in business?

I'm now delegating long overdue filing etc to dig out of trouble, but I want a sustainable solution I can implement, perhaps with affordable assistance, in the future to avoid consequences of delays/procrastination/spending more time than justified on tasks that don't require virtuosity or precision.  I notice that when I do use technology for things like recording hours (to bill clients for varied projects) and finding documents (on hard drive or network rather than paper files)  it works pretty well for me. I'm hoping scanner & software technology like Neat Receipts or Paper Port & related software--perhpaps with some coaching -- help me stay on top of personal & small business finances, bills, & TAXES.  I'd also like to keep better track of posessions and info related to personal/social interests.  Perhaps I'd even have more time & energy to pursue those things.  Thanks very much!

Thanks for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

Although each person with ADHD is different and the behavioral strategies that work will depend on the individual, I can imagine that this type of system would be beneficial for those with ADHD. First, it can help to eliminate clutter and piles of papers, simply scan them into your computer and then you don't have to keep the many different papers, receipts, etc. in piles. Second, since the systems I have seen on advertisements say it can create an index, you can avoid the awful task of filing.

In other words, if this system saves you time and helps to keep you organized, then it is great. I just don't know if there is a blanket statement that says it is beneficial for people with ADHD.

If you choose to use it, I would love to hear your thoughts and why it helps you.
