Hi,

The specialist, hopefully, will want your son's teachers to fill out some forms that detail his behaviors and difficulties in school. If that isn't the case, you should ask them what they are observing in class: what his behaviors are and how they impact him academically and socially. Ask them what kind of support they think he needs to be more successful.

If you are in the USA, and if you and the doctor feel your son would benefit from special supports at school, you can request a 504 or IEP. You can read more about that at http://www.healthcentral.com/adhd/c/1443/12027/ieps-section-504s

We have some great information here on alternative treatments for ADHD. Start with expert Eileen Bailey's article at http://www.healthcentral.com/adhd/alternative-treatments-200124-5.html
