Q: My 10 year old daughter is jerking her upper body it's been about 2-3 months now.

My 10 year old daughter is jerking her upper body, it's been 2-3 months. She is on ritalin for about 5 years and prevacid 8 years. It started out slowly and has just been getting worse. I am just wandering what type of doctor I should take her to? I called her dr. that prescribes the ritalin but I have not heard back from her yet.  Thank You, Sherry.

Sherry,

I agree with momofadhdboy, you should consult with a doctor who is familiar with these types of meds, some of them in some people (not all) can cause tics to develop over time, I have heard that it is reversable when the drug is stopped. She may need to be on a different med.

I would definitley take her to a new pediatrician and make sure he/she has experience with adhd medication. Not just any doctor should prescribe it. My son has been taking medication for three years and seems to have adjustments at least once a year and different meds. react differently in him and make him act differently. From that point of view all I can say is get a second opinion.
