Q: is there a medication that can treat adhd and anxiety

i work with a 23 yr old male who is diagnosed with autism he takes ritalin 40mg daily for adhd.  He has had an increase in anxiety.  is there a medication that treats adhd and anxiety

Thank you for your question. There are many different medications available for ADHD today. Most, such as ritalin, are stimulant medications. Some of the side effects listed for ritalin include nervousness and irritability. However, these side effects normally disappear within a few weeks. If they are not going away, you should speak with the young man's physician about what you are seeing.
