Q: are there any websites with proof of the ADHD / DYSLEXIA genetic connection.

I have 5 children 4 are ADHD 3 are Dyslexic.  I have been diagnosed as Dyslexic but can not seem to get a doctor or psychologist to test me for ADHD.  It would be nice to prove to certian people that these are connected.   Child protective services people need to know this kind of thing.  These know it alls need to know that they really DO NOT know every thing.

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

According to a report issued by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), one half of all children with ADHD have also been diagnosed with a learning disability. The report is called, "Prevalence of Attention Deficit Disorder and Learning Disability"

Since the Interagency Committee on Learning Disabilities has concluded that between 5% and 10% of the general population has a learning disabilty. With this in mind, if one half of all children with ADHD show at least some signs of a learning disability, the incident rate is between 5 and 10 time higher than for the general population.

It would therefore seem that there is a correlation between ADHD and learning disabilties.

I hope this helps

Eileen
