Hi Mom in tears,
I really feel for you. I know the frustration you and your son are experiencing.
There are two issues at stake. One is finding the right meds; the other is helping your son and his self confidence and self esteem.
To address the first-
It might be time to get a second opinion. I'm not sure what kind of physician you're working with, but often times, pediatricians or general practitioners simply aren't as well versed on ADHD meds as are child psychiatrists. You might want to consider consulting with one.
It can take quite a long time to find the right medication and dosage. It often takes lots of tweaking to get it right. And it IS frustrating! So...I would search for a doctor who sees a LOT of kids with ADD and get another opinion.
To help your son with his self esteem, please consider counseling with someone who works a lot with children who have ADHD. It can do a world of good when the child feels understood and gets guidance from a professional.

Good luck and don't give up!
