Q: Diagnosed with depression - could it be undiagnosed adult ADHD?

29 years old & I have been taking Wellbutrin XL for depression, wondering if I might have some kind of ADD/ADHD? My family has always joked that I act "ADD" but now my co-workers have been commenting that I start a conversation and switch to another conversation about what needs to be done with another employee...all the time. My boyfriend has complained about my organizational problems (I never seem to complete tasks in organizing without starting a new one). This has started to affect my work with piles of "to-do" items that I don't get done due to starting something new that I feel is a priority multiple times every hour.  How can I approach this with my Behavioral Specialist who has put me on depression meds but never mentioned ADD or ADHD? I feel like a light has gone off and I may have an opportunity to fix this. I notice when I am doing these things sometimes like folding 1 towel in the laundry then walking over to unload the dishwasher halfway then something else, etc before anything is completed. Evan when I notice that I'm doing it, I can never seem to complete what I'm doing or communicating. How do I approach this with my doctor?

Thank you for your question and welcome to Health Central's ADHD Community.

There are a number of "online screening tools" for ADHD. These are not meant to be used as diagnostic tools but might be helpful for you to complete. If the results indicate that you should be evaluated for ADHD, you can print out the results and bring it with you to the doctor. This might give you a starting point to talk about ADHD and go over the results, pointing out the reasons you believe you may have ADHD.
