ADHD drugs like Concerta, Ritalin linked to increased ER visits for teens

Teens who misuse attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) drugs are at greater risk for needing emergency treatment for drug reactions than older patients are, a study has found. A new report by the Drug Abuse Warning Network found that the non-medical use of ADHD medicines like Concerta, Ritalin, and Adderall was linked to almost 8,000 visits to the emergency room in 2004. Teens ages 12 to 17 accounted for a higher number of these ER visits than people over 18 did. Read more »
