New research suggests that infants and children who undergo surgical procedures that require anesthesia may have neurological effects later. A study on rhesus monkeys--whose brains are similar to humans--suggest that early anesthesia could be linked to learning disorders, ADHD, memory problems, and other functional issues. Experts say that multiple exposure to anesthesia before age two may be a significant risk factor for ADHD later in life.
