A modified drug that could be injected directly into arthritic joints could provide longer-lasting relief for people who suffer from osteoarthritis. Researchers at Duke University have discovered that adding an extra protein to an interleukin-1 receptor antagonist drug causes the drug to gather in clumps in the body. This clump acts as a "drug depot" that gradually releases active medication particles and helps relieve arthritis pain longer.
