A new study by the University of Maryland Center for Substance Abuse Research shows that 48 percent of people who abuse Ritalin steal or buy the medications from friends or family members. One researcher involved in the study said that this abuse is a growing problem in high schools and colleges. The study also found that 20 percent of the survey respondents lie to doctors to obtain prescriptions for stimulant medications.
