Shire PLC, the maker of Adderall, has filed a patent-infringement lawsuit to stop a rival company from gaining approval for generic Adderall. The lawsuit comes as a response to Andrx Pharmaceutical's filing of new drug applications for several generic versions of the popular attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder drug. Shire claims that the drug's patent does not expire until 2018.
