Study: American kids take more psychotropic meds

A new study shows that children in the United States are more likely to be prescribed psychotropic medications than their peers in Holland and Germany. In America, about 6.6 percent of children take stimulants, antidepressants, and other psychotropic drugs compared to 2.9 percent in Holland and 2 percent in Germany. Almost 20 percent of American children take more than one of these drugs at a time, while in Holland and Germany only 8.5 percent and 5.9 percent of children and teens take more than one prescription at a time.   Read full story >
