Short-term memory varies daily in ADHD patients

Short-term memory--the type we use in order to stay focused on a task--appears to fluctuate more in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Researchers at the University of California gave 25 ADHD children and 24 children without ADHD a computer-based math test. They found that ADHD kids got the right answers to the questions as often as their peers, but those with ADHD were more likely to answer the questions slowly. The study's authors say this daily fluctuation in short-term memory may explain why some days ADHD kids are focused and the next show memory problems.  Read full story >
