Bioethics professor John Harris says that if ADHD stimulants are safe for children, adults should be able to take them in order to get a brain boost. In an article on the British Medical Journal website, Harris says it is "unethical" to prevent healthy people from taking the drugs if they are considered safe for children to take over a long period of time for a disease that is not life-threatening. He likens brain-boosting drugs to "synthetic sunlight" like lamps and electric lights that he says effectively changed the course of daily productivity for humankind.
