July 4th: Playing it safe with fireworks

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reminds Americans to use caution while playing with fireworks this 4th of July. Officials say 70 percent of fireworks-related accidents happen between June 20th and July 20th every year, with the largest number of people injured by the devices falling into the 14- to 17-year-old age group. CPSC experts say parents should always supervise young people who are using fireworks, and they should only purchase fireworks that are legal and comply with their state and local ordinances. They also warn that users should never pick up "duds" (fireworks that fail to go off), because they can still go off in users' hands.  Read full story >
