Generic ADHD meds just as good as name brand: experts

Parents should be aware that generic versions of ADHD drugs are as safe and effective as name-brand meds, a new Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs report has found. The article states that free trials of name-brand drugs such as Adderall XR, Strattera, and Concerta may falsely lead parents to believe that their ADHD child would benefit only from the name-brand drug, when generic versions of dextroamphetamine and methylphenidate are as effective, and could save parents thousands of dollars per year. The report also suggests that when doctors hand out samples they often neglect to give patients information on side-effects and other safety information.
