Clue to ADHD brain chemistry found

A difference in the part of the brain responsible for feelings of reward and motivation may be linked to inattention and other ADHD symptoms, a new study has found. A study of 53 non-medicated ADHD adults found that those with the disorder processed the chemical mood regulator dopamine differently than healthy adults. Researchers say this lack of a natural sense of motivation and reward may explain why many people with ADHD go on to develop problems with drugs, alcohol, or food dependence. And experts say the study also supports the use of stimulant medications, which can help raise dopamine levels.  Read full story >
