Licorice during pregnancy linked to lower IQ, ADHD in kids

Women who consume a great deal of licorice during pregnancy may adversely affect their children's intelligence and behavior, new research suggests. In the study of eight-year-olds, scientists found that the children of women who ate a lot of licorice during pregnancy did not perform as well on cognitive tests as the children of mothers who didn't eat licorice. The researchers also found that these children were more likely to have poor attention spans and show disruptive behavior such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
