ECGs May Help Prevent Deaths in ADHD Kids

A new study suggests that giving ECGs to children who are taking stimulant medications may save 13 children's lives out of every 400,000 screened. Researchers say about 500 children die every year from sudden cardiac arrest, and about 50 of those children are on ADHD drugs. Researchers say there is no proof that stimulant meds cause sudden cardiac death, but stimulants can increase heart rate and blood pressure. Experts say cardiac arrest is still rare, and researchers don't know if ECGs are cost effective as a preventive treatment.
