A gene variant may help explain why some children respond well to ADHD medications such as Ritalin and Concerta, while others don't. Researchers in Ohio studied 89 children and found that those who had at least one copy of the DRD4 gene responded better to doses of the medication methylphenidate than children who did not have the gene. Experts say that in the future this may help doctors tailor medications to an individual child.
