380 Million Eggs Recalled
(The Los Angeles Times) UPDATED 2010-08-20
More than 380 million eggs are being recalled after 2,000 people developed salmonella-based food poisoning. The eggs were processed at an Iowa farm where experts believe rodents may have lived in the chicken's feed troughs. Eggs in different sized containers were packaged under the Lucerne, Mountain Dairy, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Albertson, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, James Farms, Glenview, Ralph's, Boomsma's, Lund, Dutch Farms, Kemps and Pacific Coast brand names. You can tell if you have a recalled package by looking at the Julian dates and plant code stamped on the end of the egg carton or on the case label. The Julian dates range from 136 to 229 with plant numbers 1026, 1413, 1942 and 1946.
