PTSD Can Be Mistaken for ADHD: Study

A new study suggests that some signs of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may be mistaken for ADHD. Researchers at Stanford University examined children who lived in a violent, low-income neighborhood and found a strong link between abuse, neglect, and trauma and a child's mental health. Children who experienced all four types of trauma were 30 times more likely to have behavior and learning problems than those who were not exposed to trauma. Experts say these environmental threats impact a child even if the trauma is not always in the home, and they say that doctors can mistake the signs of PTSD for ADHD.
